Many of you know that Gene's influence reached far and wide...and that he absolutely adored students...In the 80s, Gene spoke at many Fall conferences in California and helped to facilitate a freshman evangelism project in Boulder, CO for N. California students. I never tired of hearing his sermons from the parables. He could spin a yarn...he could grip your heart with his passion and the passion of the spirit...He spoke these curious phrases that stuck with many of us from that era, for example: "God is not nice, he is the Son of God"...(with dramatic flare!)
